There was always a strained relationship between Octavius and Marc Anthony who was married to Ocatvius' sister, Octavia. Marc Antony would only make things worse by famously having an open affair with Cleopatra. This affair leads to war between the two, ultimately resulting in the couple's suicide and leaving Octavian as the undisputed master of Rome. In 27 B.C. at the age of 33, he was declared "Caesar Augustus" as he is now famously known and the Roman Imperial Period would begin. Caesar Augustus would reign for 40 years bringing stability and peace to the Roman Empire, as well as enacting the policies that would establish the success of the empire for centuries.
