In 2018 we celebrate the eleventh animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar dog include 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 and 2018. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be loyal, amiable, kind and friendly.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold, each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The Perth Mint will release no more than 3,000 of the 2018 Year of the Dog 1oz Gold Proof Coloured Edition.
The reverse of the coin depicts a chocolate Labrador Retriever standing on rocks and featuring a stylised pine tree in the background. The Chinese character for dog and the inscription Year of the Dog also appear in the design with The Perth Mints traditional P mintmark. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date, and the monetary denomination are shown on the coins obverse.
Each coin is housed in an oval-shaped, glossy black and timber-inspired display case within a lunar-themed shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
