Commemorating the 250th anniversary of the British Royal Navy’s research vessel, the 'Endeavour' reaching Australia in 1770, The Perth Mint have released a celebratory gold coin in proof quality.
Struck from 99.99% pure gold, this coin is issued as Australian legal tender and has a limited mintage of just 750 coins.
On 26 August 1768, Captain James Cook embarked on an expedition to chart the transit of Venus across the sun at the equator and discovered the east coast of Australia at Point Hicks on 20 April 1770. Nine days later, the Endeavour landed at the coast of Botany Bay, named by Cook himself. The coin’s reverse features the HM Bark Endeavour with the outline of the east coast of Australia, the Wattle and Banksia in the background.
The coin comes presented in a classic display box with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
