The Perth Mint is pleased to present this 1/4oz gold proof coin marking 150 years since the discovery of the Welcome Stranger gold nugget. The world famous Welcome Stranger nugget is the largest known alluvial gold nugget ever found, estimated to weigh a total of 72 kilos and containing almost 2,300oz of gold.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 1/4oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The Perth Mint will release no more than 550 of the Welcome Stranger 1/4oz Gold Proof Coin in this packaging from a maximum mintage of 750.

The coins reverse features a depiction of the Welcome Stranger nugget by master coin designer Stuart Devlin AO with the inscription WELCOME STRANGER 1869 and AUSTRALIAN NUGGET. The Perth Mints P mintmark, the 2019 year-date, and the coins weight and fineness are also included in the reverse design. The Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination are depicted on the coins obverse.

The coin is housed in a classic display case with a wooden lid. Packaged within an illustrated shipper, each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
