Queen Victoria Young Head Shield

These sovereigns feature a young bust of Queen Victoria with a braid in her hair on the obverse and the British coat of arms shield on the reverse. They were produced from 1871 to 1887. These sovereigns were produced in Australia at the mints in Melbourne and Sydney as well as in Britain at the Royal Mint in London.
These coins symbolize the co-ordination in coin production between the British Royal Mint and one of her colonies as no other colony was producing British style Sovereigns at this time.
