Product Description:

Louis XVIII was King of France from 1814 to 1824. He was a member of the Bourbon dynasty and is often referred to as the "Restoration King" because his reign marked the return of the Bourbon monarchy to power after the tumultuous years of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic era.

During the French Revolution, he and his family were forced to flee France to escape the guillotine. They spent many years in exile in various European countries. After the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1814, the Bourbon monarchy was restored, and Louis XVIII was crowned king. His reign is known as the Bourbon Restoration, which aimed to bring stability and continuity to France after the chaos of the revolutionary and Napoleonic periods.

His reign is remembered for its efforts to stabilize France after years of turmoil. He issued the Charter of 1814, which served as France's constitutional framework for the next few decades. While his reign wasn't without controversy, it marked a period of relative peace and the return of the Bourbon monarchy.
